TBS buffer is extensively utilized in various biochemical techniques, including protein detection systems such as Western Blotting, immunocytological and immunohistological methods, in situ hybridization, apoptosis assays, and nuclear staining. Its primary function is to maintain a consistent pH range, ensuring reproducible results. ZELLX® TBS, for instance, is composed of 50 mM Tris-HCl and 150 mM KCl, with a pH of 7.6 at 25°C. Each tablet is for preparation of 500 mL 1X TBS solution.
